CANARY ISLANDS SHORT FILMS
The program for the promotion and spreading of Canary Islands short films “Canarias en corto”, is the first step taken by the Government of the Canary Islands toward the internationalization of the audiovisual works produced in the Islands. It provides an excellent sample of the high level achieved by Canarias short films as
well as the talent of the film makers.

This is a sarcastic inversion of the archetype of the couple in love.

Everybody is ready on the set. Cinematographer measures the light with his photometer. Electricians adjust the lights. The focus is marked and the slate ready. Make up girl touches up the actor. The intruder…simply observes.

It is a hot Sunday afternoon. A young man is going on his bike to the outskirts of a village. A girl is waiting for him at a crossroad, she is a deaf person. They are friends but this is their last encounter. They know each other since long time ago, the have grown together, there are no secrets among them…Or it seems so.

In his memories of childhood and youth, written in several notebooks of accounting, the painter Manolo Millares, deceased in 1972 at the age of 46, make accounts with his family, friends and diverse characters pertaining to a significant time of the Spanish history of century XX (The Second Republic , the civil war and the immediate postwar period), seen all it from the Canary Islands.

The story is about an acting teacher who’s fighting to keep going on a musical theater project with limited material and financial resources. She pretends to take the musical to an International Theater Festival. In the mid time, the story presents her two lovers; one is the mature director of the school and the other one, Carmelo is an ex student, for whom he only feels sexual atraction.
