The art show . “OUTSIDER, AN INSIDE ART”
The show consists of 47 pieces by artist from the US, England, Spain, Cuba or Mexico that are mentally impaired or handicapped. The pieces have been selected by Ricardo Viera, a multimedia artist, educator, curator and museum specialist that has been a professor and curator of the “Lehigh University Art Galleries, Museum Operation” at Bethlehem,
PA since 1974. Most artists on the show are self-taught and convey a personal and intense vision of art.
With the presentation of these art works NAEMI, (National Art Exhibitions by the Mentally ILL) a non-profit organization located in Miami and Spain pretends to make the general public aware of the influence of this art in contemporary creation.
The book

A book presentation will take place in connection with the art show. The book entitled “Outsider, an internal art” is a bilingual (Spanish/English) publication that includes poems by the renowned Spanish poet, narrator and essay writer Leopoldo María Panero, that shares his tragic perception from his stays in a mental health hospital, as well as texts from other authors about the state of the outsider art nowadays. Among others Ramón Almela, Doctor in Plastic Arts, Thomas Röske, director of the Prinzhorn collection in Germany, Andy Antippas, a prestigious gallery owner from the outsider World.
The book will be presented by art critic and writer Lyle Rexer, whose last book “How to look at outsider art” has become a classic about the subject.
