With the
participation of La Gata and the music of David Alsina with his bandoneon.
CCE and The Rhythm Foundation as part of the
Transatlantic Heineken Music Festival present The
Cat: The Nine Lives of a Tango Singer
By Julienne
Gage.
If life were a melancholic
tango, then La Gata would be its interpreter. More than a documentary about tango, this
70-minute film is a story about the charisma and courage of a woman who was
liberated before her time; the difficulty of aging with dignity; the
struggle and misery of being an impoverished, undocumented immigrant; and
the power that music can have on transforming a community to uplift culture
in all its expressions.
Three years ago, Miami-based journalist Julienne Gage was looking for a newsreel
topic to help her make the segue from print to
audio-visual news, but as she quickly discovered, some stories merit
feature-length films. With this project, Gage debuts as a first-time
documentary film director and producer.
At CCE. Free admission. Limited space.
