CCE and The Rhythm Foundation as part of the Transatlantic Heineken Music Festival present The Cat: The Nine Lives of a Tango Singer

By Julienne Gage.

If life were a melancholic tango, then La Gata would be its interpreter. More than a documentary about tango, this 70-minute film is a story about the charisma and courage of a woman who was liberated before her time; the difficulty of aging with dignity; the struggle and misery of being an impoverished, undocumented immigrant; and the power that music can have on transforming a community to uplift culture in all its expressions.

Three years ago, Miami-based journalist Julienne Gage was looking for a newsreel topic to help her make the segue from print to audio-visual news, but as she quickly discovered, some stories merit feature-length films. With this project, Gage debuts as a first-time documentary film director and producer.

At CCE. Free admission. Limited space.
