El artista Ángel Uranga (Zarautz, Guipúzcoa, 1961) dará una charla sobre la mezcla del aceite y el agua, dos materias primas en principio incompatibles que ocupan sus últimos trabajos así como su labor investigadora.

La textura es la auténtica protagonista de la obra de Ángel Uranga. Para ello recurre a juegos de agua en superficie mediante la interacción entre el óleo y el líquido, una técnica definida por el propio artista como la incompatibilidad de medios . Aunque no renuncia en ocasiones puntuales a incluir materias, a las relaciones de signos planos con volumen en juegos simples de geometría ni a los enfrentamientos entre lo plano y lo corpóreo, da mayor importancia a la incompatibilidad de medios, en lo que entra asimismo la cuestión del azar, la otra constante de su obra.

Uranga ha sistematizado todas sus ideas en su tesis doctoral, ya que el trabajo académico de este pintor se basa en el análisis y experimentación con la incompatibilidad de medios en la práctica pictórica. En 1984 terminó la licenciatura de Bellas Artes en la Universidad del País Vasco, en 1994 se doctoró y desde 1996 es profesor de la especialidad de pintura en la facultad de Bellas Artes de dicha Universidad. Además ha realizado exposiciones en galerías de todo el mundo: España, Alemania, Francia, Austria, Bélgica y en Estados Unidos en Nueva York y Art Miami 2004 y 2005.

Lecture "The incompatibility of the means", by ANGEL URANGA

The artist Ángel Uranga (Zarautz, Guipúzcoa, 1961) will give a talk on the water and oil mix, two supposedly incompatible raw materials target of this painter's last works and research.

Texture is the true main subject in Ángel Uranga's works, turning to plays of water on surface through the interaction of oil and liquid, a technique defined by the artist as incompatibility of the means. Although in specific occasions he does not renounce to include subjects, relations between flat signs and volume in simple geometry plays or the confrontation between the flat and the bodily, he gives more importance to the incompatibility of the means, where fate -the other constant feature of his works- is also involved.

Uranga has systematized his ideas in his PhD research, an academic essay on the analysis and experimentation with the incompatibility of the means in the pictorial practice. In 1984 he graduated in Fine Arts at the University of the Basque Country, in 1994 he got his PhD and since 1996 he teaches painting at the faculty of Fine Arts of the above mentioned university. Also he has exhibited in galleries all throughout the world: Spain, Germany, France, Austria, Belgium and in the US (New York and Art Miami 2004 and 2005).
