In a highlight of the dance season, Cultural Center of Spain (CCE Miami) and the Broward Center for the Performing Arts present the award-winning Teresa Nieto Dance Company performing Consuelo on Friday, February 27 at 8:30 p.m. in the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center. This presentation is part of the Center’s Cultural Embassy initiative, bringing performances from around the world to South Florida audiences to connect culture, commerce and community.

By combining the passion of flamenco with the freedom of contemporary dance, choreographer-dancer Teresa Nieto has electrified the dance world and been hailed with honors including Spain's National Dance Award, Premio Villa de Madrid Award, Community of Madrid Culture Award, ADE Award and the Max Award for Best Female Dancer.

“We are delighted to continue our partnership with the Broward Center to present one of Spain's leading dance troupes," said María del Valle, director of CCE Miami. "As a choreographer and teacher, Teresa Nieto is creating the new vocabulary for Spanish dance that both honors and expands upon Flamenco and traditional forms. We are very pleased to introduce her to South Florida audiences as the Teresa Nieto Dance Company performs one of her most popular works, Consuelo."

Nieto stars in the work which examines a woman's desperate attempts to recapture her youth to regain a past love. Describing Consuelo on the troupe's Web site, Nieto writes, "Passion makes us feel alive, young and powerful. That passion can pierce through everything, space, time and even the individuals it entangles in its madness."

A review of Consuelo in Diario Vasco stated, "The piece offers us moments of great emotional intensity and extraordinary visual beauty in its serene and courageous performance….The beautiful selection of music that sustains the work enhances its poetic and profoundly human content."

In addition to the troupe that bears her name, Nieto was a founding member of the Bocanada Company and a co-director of the Arrieritos Company. As a guest choreographer she has created works for National Ballet of Paraguay, National Ballet of Spain, Belén Maya Flamenco, Antonio Canales Flamenco and numerous theater productions.
