All Science Transcending
Tapestries and other art works by Raimundo Travieso commemorating 400 years since the publication of St. John of the Cross mystical poems.

There is free admission. The exhibition will be on view until February 25th.
The exhibition consists of eight large format jacquard woven tapestries and about one hundred drawings, prints and other small format works by the artist, together with selected texts of the Spanish mystics (St. Therese of Avila, St. John of the Cross and others), accompanied by films, concerts, talks, etc. related to the exhibition’s theme.
The opening night includes a concert by the Spanish guitarist, Jose Luis de la Paz, Susana Behar (voice), Adolfo Herrera (percussion), Niurca Márquez (choreography and dance), Kenneth Jiménez (double bass), Felipe Carvajal (Second guitar) and Santiago y Eva Herrera (choir).
Born in Havana, Cuba in 1946. He was educated at the University of Puerto Rico (B.B.A. 1970) and Harvard University (M.B.A. 1976).
Self taught as an artist, he considers himself a poet who draws, having drawn most days of his life as a form of meditation and prayer. From his drawings he makes prints and woven tapestries.
A teaching artist, he has taught art to children and youths with the Youth Ministry of the Archdiocese of Miami, at San Juan Bautista Catholic Church in Miami’s art district, at Universidad del Turabo in Puerto Rico, at Liceo Fe y Alegria in Santo Domingo, and with Arts For Learning, VSA of Florida, Centro Cultural Espanol, State of Florida Department of Children and Families, and Somerset City Arts Conservatory.
